A former Justice of the Supreme Court, Muhammad Dattijo, has revealed that the number of Supreme Court Justices, which has hit an all-time-low of 10, has remained so due to deliberate action.

Justice Dattijo stated this without mincing words, in his speech at a valedictory court session held by the Supreme Court yesterday, to mark his retirement from the apex court bench, having attained the statutory retirement age of 70 years, on October 27.
Justice Dattijo said, “It is all about the absolute powers vested in the office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the responsible exercise of same.
The retired Jurist was reacting to the reduction in the number of Justices on the bench of the Supreme Court, which is now 10, following his retirement.
That this avoidable depletion has affected and will further affect the court and litigants is stating the obvious, the retired Justice stated.
